Eligibility for CMA USA final after Completion of Intermediate (Part 1)

Having completed the CMA USA Part 1 exam, you’re just one step closer to holding the prestigious finance and management accounting certification. 

It takes a lot of effort to clear Part 1, which also applies to Part 2. You’ve done half the job, now you just have to ensure the ball is in your park.

Clearing Part 1 Lays the Foundation to Take the CMA US Final Exam

It would have taken months of preparation to clear the Part 1 exam. In the process, you have now become familiar with various key topics in the finance/accounting field such as:

3 Requirements To Fulfill To Become Eligible for CMA USA Final

After successfully clearing Part 1 of the CMA US exam, you can register for Part 2 if you meet the following requirements.

1. Educational Qualification

First and foremost, you need to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A degree in any discipline can be taken but it must be recognized by the Institute of Management Accountants. 

A degree in commerce and accounting would do you great good as you would cover the fundamentals of finance which will be helpful while you prepare for the CMA US exam.

The IMA also allows students in the final year of their undergraduate course to attempt the exam. International candidates have to verify the eligibility of their degree by going through the IMA foreign degree guidelines. 

2. Work Experience

You need to have at least 2 years of professional work experience in finance management or management accounting to obtain the CMA US certification. 

Although it is not mandatory before appearing for the Part 2 exam, you need to have acquired the work experience within 7 years of passing the exam. You also have the option of fulfilling the requirement via part-time work but it will take you twice as long.

3. IMA Membership

When you register for the exam, you will have to become an active member of the IMA. This involves paying the annual fees and renewing your membership. 

Certified CMAs have to pay a $30 annual renewal fee to the IMA to keep their membership active. 

Registration for CMA final exam (Part 2)

When you feel you’re ready to take on Part 2 of the CMA US exam, go and register for the same by logging into your IMA account. Pay the fees required and select a date within the available exam windows. (January-February, May-June, or September-October).
